When you share your story of your lost Father or loved one it leads to other stories about other Fathers I have never had the honor to meet in person.
At one of my clients, I met a genuine and gentle man named Bill Meetze. When he learned about the "Our Fathers Who Art In Heaven" book, he told about his late Father's World War II diary. The next time I was at the same client, Bill brought in a three ring binder. The cover sheet on the binder reads "Bowen 'Jack' Meetze - World War II Diary". The subtitle reads "In case I can't, please give this to my wife and son Jack. April 18, 1944 - LST-980". The binder is full of photo copies of his Father's diary, photos and other records from the LST-980.
Bill let me borrow his Father's diary to take home and read. Many of his Father's diary entries caused you to pause and reflect what it was like to be a man who never knew if he would see his family again. There were several entries about being tossed around in the LST-980 by rough seas and bomb attacks. How many of us today, can really say that we had a rough day?
Bowen "Jack" Meetze passed away on October 1st, 2004 at the age of 98. He and his wife were married for 70 years, 8 months, 3 weeks and 1 day. Bowen "Jack" Meetze is truly a Father, who art in heaven and an inspiration to us all.
